LATEST
NEWS!
Thanks to the completion
of 3 phases of refurbishment since 2008, the Assembly Rooms can
now provide an exceptionally desirable venue for a wide rage of
events.
Further grants
are being sought to undertake the final phase of refurbishment
required. This will include the creation of a safe enclosed walled
garden area to the rear and restoration of the historic and currently
disused 'Reading Room' Nearly there!

Assembly Rooms 2011 ~ Pre-phase 2 renovation...

The
St.Briavels Assembly Rooms are funded & run as a charitable
limited company on the behalf of the parishioners of St.Briavels,
having been built & donated to them by Captain Octavius W.Andrews
CBE, using money donated by his uncle, Charles Lord Denton, circa
1900.
After
winning a Defra grant of £94,000 from the South West Rural
Enterprise Scheme and securing a £96,000 loan from the Charity
Bank, renovation of the main village hall finally began on 21st
April 2008. The main hall was re-built during 2008 and re-opened
in January 2009.
This
was followed by another phase of refurbishment in 2011 & 2012
as further funds were raised and grants secured from Biffaward,
the FODDC LAG 'Rural Development Programme for England' fund, the
Summerfield Charitable Trust, Magnox North and the £6,000
from the Parish Council.
The
radically improved and new look Assembly Rooms re-opened fully in
June 2012.
Thanks
to a stunning new glass partition wall, the Rooms is now a large
open plan flexible space consisting of a combination of 3 serpate
hireable areas. These are the main hall, the stylish recreation
room and cafe/bar area with its own access to the garden and a large
backstage area /office suite with seperate acccess to the garden
through French doors.
The
new toilets include a disabled loo and a walk in wet showerroom
plus baby changing station. There is also a very pretty reading
room to the side, but this currently awaits major works to bring
it back into use. Funds are currently being sought to achieve this.
